About the role

Travel Registered Nurse assignment in a hospital-based inpatient unit for pediatric patients (ages 5–18) with acute mental health crises. This is a temporary, 13-week contract with rotating 12-hour shifts (days, evenings, nights). Expected average of 36–48 hours per week, including weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, professional nursing care to pediatric and adolescent patients (ages 5–18) experiencing acute mental health crises on an inpatient unit
  • Monitor mental status, vital signs, and medical stability; administer prescribed psychopharmacologic interventions and monitor for adverse effects
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (psychiatry, psychology, social work, activities therapy, nursing, and ancillary staff) to meet patient goals and implement treatment plans
  • Support a therapeutic milieu through activities therapy, mindfulness, wellness, and coping skills groups; participate in patient and family education as appropriate
  • Maintain safety and security on the unit, de-escalate aggressive or disruptive behaviors, and follow unit protocols for restraints and crisis intervention when indicated
  • Document accurately in the electronic medical record; ensure proper medication reconciliation, order verification, and timely communication with the care team
  • Participate in rounds and discharge planning, coordinating with families to support transitions of care and community-based resources

Requirements

  • Current New York State Registered Nurse license (required)
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric mental health/behavioral health experience (required)
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association) required
  • Preferred: CPI blue card; experience in a large academic medical center
  • Telemetry experience is a plus
  • RN degree from an accredited nursing program

Skills

  • Ability to work in a high-acuity pediatric/adolescent inpatient behavioral health setting
  • Willingness to rotate shifts, including weekends and holidays

Pay

Weekly pay: $1,923–$1,969 per week

Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts (3x12), rotating days/evenings/nights (D/E/N)
  • Coverage includes weekends, holidays, and on-call per unit need
  • Expected average of 36–48 hours per week
