Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct nursing care for patients in an inpatient behavioral health unit, following physician orders and unit policies
  • Administer medications, document administration accurately, and monitor for therapeutic and adverse effects
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team; participate in multidisciplinary treatment planning and revise care plans based on ongoing assessment
  • Provide direct patient care as needed; participate in group therapies and crisis intervention when appropriate; contribute to safety and de-escalation efforts per CPI-APS guidelines
  • Maintain a safe environment; respond to emergencies; coordinate with charge nurses to assign staff and resources effectively
  • Communicate clearly with patients, families, and colleagues; ensure confidentiality and adherence to all rights and privacy standards

Requirements

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred or equivalent years of experience
  • Licenses/Certifications: Current Illinois RN license; BLS certification; CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills (APS) required for this role
  • Age-specific care: Ability to work with patients 18 years of age and older
  • Physical/clinical requirements: Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, stand for extended periods (4–6 hours), and perform required nursing tasks with appropriate body mechanics
  • Experience: Nursing experience in behavioral health or related inpatient settings preferred; demonstrated clinical competence and commitment to professional growth
