About the role
The Transportation Generalist/Associate positions at the Nopeming Truck Station are integral to ensuring safe travel for residents and visitors. In the summer, these roles focus on road surface and roadside maintenance, while in the winter, they concentrate on snow and ice removal.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconstruct roadways, right-of-ways, and road shoulders with gravel, bituminous, and concrete surfaces.
- Operate and maintain all tractor mowers and small rollers for road maintenance.
- Set up and manage traffic control systems to ensure safety during high traffic volumes.
- Perform landscaping tasks such as planting, watering, seeding, sodding, trimming, and removing tree limbs and stumps.
- Remove snow and ice from roadways and shoulders, open and widen roadways, and apply anti-icing and de-icing chemicals.
- Inspect and maintain snowplow equipment, sanders, and other winter equipment.
- Prepare and inspect snow routes and perform post-storm cleanup.
- Document snow and ice data for inventory and resource management.
Requirements
- One year of experience in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities.
- A valid MN Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction.
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 30 days of hire.
- Working knowledge of English sufficient for communication with employees and the public.
Qualifications
- For Transportation Generalist: Completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (at least 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits).
- For Transportation Associate: Commercial Driver's Permit with no air brake restrictions and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 3 months of hire.

Pay
- Transportation Associate: $23.57 - $24.98 / hourly; $49,214 - $50,697 / annually
- Transportation Generalist: $25.19 - $31.60 / hourly; $52,597 - $65,981 / annually
Schedule
- Full-time, year-round position with seasonal schedules (summer hours & winter hours).
- Summer hours: Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (4-10’s).
- Winter hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
