Transportation Generalist/Transportation Associate – Deer Lake Truck Station

About the role

The Transportation Generalist/Transportation Associate plays a critical role in maintaining Minnesota's roads and ensuring safe travel for its residents and visitors. This position is part of the State of Minnesota's effort to improve the well-being and quality of life for all Minnesotans.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and reconstruct roadways, right-of-ways, and road shoulders with gravel, bituminous, and concrete surfaces.

  • Operate all tractor mowers and small rollers to maintain roadways.

  • Set up and ensure compliance with traffic control measures in high traffic areas.

  • Perform landscaping duties such as planting, watering, seeding, sodding, trimming, and removing tree limbs and stumps.

  • Remove snow and ice from roadways and shoulders during winter.

  • Inspect and maintain snow and ice control equipment and prepare for winter storms.

  • Document snow and ice data for inventory and resource management.

Requirements

  • One year of experience performing activities in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities.

  • A valid MN Commercial Driver’s License Class “B” with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction.

  • Ability to upgrade to a CDL Class A with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction within 30 days of hire.

  • Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (at least 60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits).

  • Commercial Driver's Permit with no air brake restrictions and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 3 months of hire.

  • Pass a pre-placement drug test for evidence of use of certain substances.

  • Be immediately accessible to a phone and able to report to work within one hour of being called.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Proficiency in operating heavy equipment and machinery.

  • Knowledge of traffic control layouts and procedures.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.

Pay

  • Hourly range: $23.57 - $31.60

  • Annual range: $49,214 - $65,981

Schedule

  • Full-time, year-round position with seasonal schedules (summer hours & winter hours).

  • Summer hours: Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (4-10’s).

  • Winter hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
