Transportation Generalist/Transportation Associate – Hibbing Truck Station
About the role
The Transportation Generalist/Associate positions at the Hibbing Truck Station are integral to ensuring safe travel for residents and visitors. These roles encompass both summer and winter seasons, focusing on road maintenance and snow/ice control respectively.
Responsibilities
Summer: Perform road surface and roadside maintenance, including repairing and reconstructing roadways, maintaining traffic barriers, and operating heavy equipment.
Winter: Maintain roadways for snow and ice control, removing snow and ice, preparing and inspecting winter equipment, and performing snow route inspections.
Requirements
Transportation Generalist: Requires a valid MN Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement and the ability to upgrade to a CDL Class A within 30 days of hire. Must complete a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (at least 60 semester credits).
Transportation Associate: Requires a Commercial Driver's Permit with no air brake restrictions and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 3 months of hire.
Qualifications
Both positions require working knowledge of English, communication skills, and the ability to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
Transportation Generalist: Must have experience in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities.
Transportation Associate: Must have a Commercial Driver's Permit with no air brake restrictions and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 3 months of hire.
Skills
Knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written information.
Ability to communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices.
Experience with heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
Ability to operate machinery and equipment under varying temperatures.

Pay
Transportation Generalist: $25.19 - $31.60 / hourly; $52,596 - $65,980 / annually
Transportation Associate: $23.57 - $24.28 / hourly; $49,214 - $50,696 / annually
Schedule
Full-time, year-round position with seasonal schedules (summer hours & winter hours)
Hours may include overtime or various shifts depending on emergency situations
