About the role

The Transportation Generalist/Associate positions at the Floodwood Truck Station are integral to ensuring safe travel for residents and visitors. The primary responsibilities involve road maintenance, snow and ice removal, and other seasonal tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain roadways, shoulders, and right-of-ways with gravel, bituminous, and concrete surfaces.
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as tractors, mowers, and small rollers.
  • Set up and manage traffic control systems during peak traffic times.
  • Perform landscaping duties including tree trimming, grass cutting, and debris removal.
  • Remove snow and ice from roadways and shoulders, and apply anti-icing/de-icing chemicals.
  • Inspect and prepare winter equipment before storms and perform post-storm cleanup.
  • Document snow and ice data for inventory and resource management.

Requirements

To qualify as a Transportation Associate, candidates must have a Commercial Driver's Permit with no air brake restrictions and be able to obtain a Class A CDL within 3 months of hire. Transportation Generalists require a valid MN Commercial Driver’s License Class “B” with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction, along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

  • For Transportation Generalist: One year of experience in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities; or a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program (60-90 credits).
  • For Transportation Associate: Valid MN Commercial Driver's License Class “B” with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction; must obtain Class A CDL within 3 months of hire.

Skills

Effective communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, proficiency in English, and the ability to operate heavy equipment and machinery are essential.

Pay

Hourly rates range from $23.57 to $31.60, with annual ranges from $49,214 to $65,981.

Schedule

This is a full-time, year-round position with seasonal schedules. Hours may include overtime or various shifts depending on emergency situations. Summer hours are typically Monday through Thursday 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and winter hours are anticipated to be Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Additional Information

Applicants must pass a background investigation, drug and alcohol testing, and a pre-placement drug test. The position is contingent upon the candidate passing a math and reading assessment test, which may be waived for those who have previously passed.
