About the role

The Transportation Generalist/Associate positions at the Hibbing Truck Station are integral to our mission of ensuring safe travel for all Minnesotans. These roles encompass a variety of tasks including road maintenance, snow and ice removal, and other seasonal duties.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and reconstruct roadways, right-of-ways, and shoulders with gravel, bituminous, and concrete road surfaces.
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment such as tractors, mowers, and small rollers.
  • Perform traffic control set-ups and ensure compliance with temporary traffic zone layouts.
  • Perform landscaping duties, including tree trimming, grass cutting, and debris removal.
  • Remove snow and ice from roadways and shoulders during winter seasons.
  • Inspect and maintain snow and ice removal equipment, including snowplows and sanders.
  • Document snow and ice data for inventory and resource management.

Requirements

  • A valid MN Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Class B endorsement and tanker endorsement.
  • Ability to upgrade to a CDL Class A with tanker endorsement within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience in snow and ice control, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, or related activities.
  • Knowledge of English sufficient for communication with employees and the public.
  • Pass a math and reading assessment test (if required).
  • Pass a background investigation, including drug and alcohol testing.

Qualifications

  • For Transportation Generalist: One year of experience in snow and ice, soils, road surface maintenance, roadside maintenance, bridge maintenance, signs, or related activities. OR Completion of a Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance Program with at least 60 semester credits.
  • For Transportation Associate: Commercial Driver's Permit with no air brake restrictions, and ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 3 months of hire.

Pay

  • Transportation Associate: $23.57 - $24.28 / hourly; $49,214 - $50,696 / annually
  • Transportation Generalist: $25.19 - $31.60 / hourly; $52,596 - $65,980 / annually

Schedule

  • Full-time, year-round position with seasonal schedules (summer hours & winter hours).
  • Hours may include overtime or various shifts depending on emergency situations.
