TDCJ - Industrial Specialist IV - Metal Fab Instal

About the role

This position reports to the Ellis Bus Repair, Coffield, or Powledge Metal Fab Facility depending on vacancies. Duties include advanced work in the installation of aluminum stadium seating and various other products at state agencies, public schools, cities, and other institutions. The role involves overseeing the work of inmates to ensure efficient installation of products and supervising inmates.

Requirements

• Eighteen months of experience in chain link or ornamental fence installation, or three years of production or manufacturing experience.
• Experience in the supervision of inmates.
• Must have, or be able to obtain, a Class A CDL with E or L restrictions through the Texas Department of Criminal Justice within 120 days of employment.
• Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship or financial assistance.
• Outside applicants will be required to submit to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of quality control standards to maintain satisfactory production levels.
• Understanding of metal fabrication and related procedures.
• Strong communication skills to ensure clarity with staff, administration, and vendors.
• Problem-solving skills and ability to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Welding certifications earned through completing 30 semester hours (qualifies as one year of experience).

• Pre-Service Training Academy required.
• Hazardous Duty/Longevity position (Hazardous Duty).
• No overnight travel; day trips may be required.
• Work site visits required.
• Military preference available with proper documentation (attach to application).
