Substation Physical Designer

About the Role

Develop electrical substation layouts, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Conduit, Grounding, Foundation, Lightning Protection, and control building plans. Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers, perform design calculations, and ensure compliance with industry standards. Provide field support during construction and commissioning as needed.

Responsibilities

• Design and draft substation components ensuring safety and reliability
• Perform engineering analysis and calculations
• Collaborate with teams to deliver quality designs on time
• Support field activities during construction and commissioning

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• At least 3 years of substation design experience, especially in physical design projects
• Familiarity with relay protection schemes, MicroStation, and AutoCAD
• Willingness to enter energized substations with proper safety training and PPE
• Strong time management, communication, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
• Ability to travel for site visits and meetings

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in electric utility industry or consulting environment
• Design experience on 500kV substations
