Working collaboratively with the interprofessional team to ensure an evidence-based plan of stroke care
Provides in-person support for the clinical care of patients
Expert Stroke resource for nurses and providers
Captures and coordinates patient care using defined protocols
Provides emotional support to patients and families
Provides patient and family education
Completes NIHSS
Intervenes in real-time quality measures
Conducts chart reviews
Documents within patients’ electronic health record
Collects and manages data for regulatory compliance and accreditation
Provides EMS feedback
Provides patient discharge follow-up
Collaborates with healthcare team to create discharge plan
Provides staff education
Participates in quality initiatives and research
Committee membership

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, associate’s degree in nursing required, bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island
BLS certification through AHA
ACLS within six months of hire
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification within six months of hire
Stroke certification within 2 years of hire
Understanding of the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Rhode Island
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process

Experienced nurse with 3-5 years of acute care experience
Stroke patient care experience strongly preferred
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively function as a member of the healthcare team to coordinate and discuss patient care activities
