About the role

The Employment Development Department (EDD) is seeking three (3) Staff Tax Auditors (STAs) within the Field Audit and Compliance Division (FACD)'s Audit Review Group. These positions are based in Sacramento, CA and may be eligible for hybrid work schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Review and respond to the most difficult, complicated, and controversial tax status issues referred by both internal and external customers.
  • Provide complex advisory services to the FACD, Tax Branch, Legal Office, and the Directors' office.
  • Analyze and research legislative bills and develop compliance strategies for emerging industries.
  • Determine the impact of these developments on the programs and the Department.
  • Review and analyze historical data to assist with the development of program policies, procedures, technical training modules, and FAC Notices.
  • Present and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to internal and external customers.

Requirements

The Staff Tax Auditor (STA) position requires expert-level comprehensive knowledge of audit procedures, applicable policies, laws, and rulings affecting Tax Branch Programs. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, and at least two years of relevant experience in tax auditing or related fields. Additionally, candidates must possess strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications outlined in the classification specification, including a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant experience. Candidates must also pass the Staff Tax Auditor promotional exam.

Skills

Strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with audit procedures and tax laws are preferred.

Pay

The position is a permanent, full-time role with a standard work week of Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position is headquartered in Sacramento, CA, and may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
