About the role
The Employment Development Department (EDD) is seeking a Field Tax Auditor / Associate Tax Auditor to join the Anaheim Area Audit Office's Audit Crew 1. This position may be filled at either the entry level Tax Auditor classification or the Associate Tax Auditor classification.
Responsibilities
- Receive on-the-job and formal training.
- Conduct in-person payroll tax audits and investigations for California-based companies.
- Follow and apply the provisions of the California Unemployment Insurance Code, California Code of Regulations, Title 22, California Labor Code, and California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board decisions.
- Interact with business owners and/or their representatives to understand their business operations and internal controls.
- Interview workers and contractors to discuss their working relationships and determine proper classification.
- Gather relevant information to determine the correct classification of workers and wages.
- Examine financial records to reconcile reported taxes with employer payroll reports.
- Prepare detailed audit reports to support audit findings and recommendations.
- Explain audit findings to business owners and/or their representatives.
- Attend meetings and participate in Branch and Division-sponsored trainings.
Requirements
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule with the option for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the department and can change based on business needs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in accounting, auditing, or a related field.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.
- Knowledge of California Unemployment Insurance Code, California Code of Regulations, Title 22, California Labor Code, and California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board decisions.
- Ability to interact with business owners and representatives.
- Ability to prepare detailed audit reports and explain audit findings.

Pay
$6,646.00 - $8,740.00 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
