About the role

The Employment Development Department (EDD) is seeking a Staff Tax Auditor to conduct in-state and out-of-state audits and investigations of large employers with complex accounting systems. This position is based in Santa Fe Springs, CA and may offer limited telework.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct audits and investigations of large employers with complex accounting systems
  • Identify and develop audit leads for out-of-state and local Area Audit Offices (AAO)
  • Serve as the Department's audit and compliance representative in an out-stationed office or headquarters setting
  • Develop guidelines, training courses, and assist in formulating policy and procedures for the Employment Tax Program
  • May serve as a lead person in audit activities

Requirements

  • Current California resident
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Experience conducting audits and investigations of large employers with complex accounting systems
  • Ability to travel to various locations within California
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in tax auditing or related field
  • Knowledge of payroll tax laws and regulations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
