ASSOCIATE TAX AUDITOR , EMPLOYMENT DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
About the role
The Employment Development Department (EDD) is seeking two Field Tax Auditor positions in the Sacramento Area Audit Office, Sacramento Audit Crew 2. This role involves conducting in-person audits and investigations for California-based companies, ensuring compliance with employment tax laws.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-person payroll tax audits and investigations for California-based companies.
- Learn, follow, and apply the provisions of the California Unemployment Insurance Code, California Code of Regulations, Title 22, California Labor Code, and California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board decisions.
- Interact with business owners and/or their representatives to understand their business operations and internal controls.
- Interview workers and contractors to discuss their working relationships and determine proper classification.
- Gather relevant information to determine the correct classification of workers and wages and examine financial records to reconcile reported taxes with employer payroll reports.
- Prepare detailed audit reports to support the audit findings and recommendations and explain audit findings to business owners and/or their representatives.
- Attend meetings and participate in Branch and Division-sponsored trainings.
Requirements
To qualify, applicants must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in accounting, auditing, or a related field.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Qualifications
Applicants must pass the Tax Auditor, EDD exam to be considered for this position. The position is open to new to state candidates and shall consider applicants with the following classifications:

Skills
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are preferred.

Pay
The starting salary range for this position is $6,646.00 - $8,740.00 per month.
Schedule
This position is a hybrid role with a flexible schedule, typically working 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
