About the Role
As a Specialty Sales Team Leader, you’ll help families discover joy through strong operations, guest experience, and compelling visual merchandising in Apparel & Accessories, Home, Baby, Core Beauty, or Electronics. You’ll lead a team to ensure product availability, easy shopping, and exceptional service while balancing daily tasks and business priorities.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a consistent, inspiring, and friendly guest experience by training and holding team members accountable to Target’s service commitments.
- Review guest, financial, and team metrics to identify opportunities, drive improvements, and celebrate wins.
- Model and coach a guest-first culture, ensuring inclusivity, authenticity, and respect for diverse voices.
- Plan and execute daily/weekly workloads to meet sales goals, merchandising sets, promotions, and guest engagement priorities.
- Lead and develop a team of consultants, assigning tasks based on workload and guest traffic patterns.
- Encourage team members to use department tools (e.g., fitting rooms, testers, displays) to provide personalized guest recommendations.
- Partner with third-party vendors to maintain brand standards and ensure areas are fully stocked and visually appealing.
- Support backroom processes, organization, and replenishment to keep the sales floor fully stocked.
- Prioritize guest experience by maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming fitting rooms (if applicable).
- Establish clear goals, hold team members accountable, and foster a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
- Model and enforce physical security processes to enhance in-store safety.
- Support merchandise protection strategies, including ordering, storage, and application as directed.
- Occasionally assume store-level leadership duties (e.g., back-up cashier, order pick-up, Drive-up) while maintaining compliance with laws and policies.
- Address store emergencies and compliance needs as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Previous retail experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to lead, hold others accountable, and work independently or as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using handheld scanners, frequency devices, and other technology equipment.
- Strong communication skills and a welcoming, helpful attitude toward guests and team members.
- Ability to manage workload, prioritize tasks, and remain composed in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and peak shopping times.
- Capability to access all areas of the building to respond to guest or team member issues.
- Ability to interpret instructions, reports, and information accurately.
- Experience handling cash register operations as needed.
- Ability to climb ladders and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 44 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other environmental conditions (e.g., Drive-Up, carryout).
- Capability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary).
While this role is full-time, hours may fluctuate based on business needs and are not guaranteed at 40 hours per week.
