About the role

The Senior Medical Assistant Certified - Liver Center position at Houston Methodist is a full-time, non-exempt role located at the Medical Center. This position requires a Certified Medical Assistant certification from AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant, along with BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the interprofessional health care team to report pertinent patient care information and data.
  • Prepares and documents vital signs, chief complaints, and reviews medications and medical/social histories.
  • Follows up with patients to ensure compliance with recommendations, medications, lab/x-ray results, and other appointments.
  • Coordinates care with hospital, ED, consulting physicians, and community resources as needed.
  • Assists in the execution of pre-visit planning workflows and provides care under the supervision of a physician or clinic leadership.
  • Performs routine tests such as EKG, rapid strep, urinalysis, and urine pregnancy tests.
  • Cleans and maintains exam and treatment rooms, as well as supplies and equipment.
  • Manages resources efficiently and prioritizes daily tasks without unnecessary overtime.
  • Maintains a high standard of patient care and ensures the privacy and safety of patients and families.
  • Develops and improves skills of team members and participates in performance improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent education.
  • Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers.
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients, including assisting with examinations, diagnostic, and treatment procedures.
  • Proficient in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes.
  • Keeps up-to-date with department-specific requirements and maintains current certifications.
