Senior Medical Assistant Certified- Gastroenterology (Medical Center)

About the role

The Senior Medical Assistant Certified-Gastroenterology position at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group is responsible for providing comprehensive support to gastroenterology patients. This role requires a minimum of five years of medical assistant experience with a focus on highly complex, chronic disease management.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for examinations and treatments, ensuring all necessary paperwork and preparations are completed.
• Assists in diagnostic procedures, collecting specimens and preparing patients for imaging studies.
• Administers medications and treatments as directed by physicians, ensuring accuracy and patient comfort.
• Communicates with patients, recording vital signs, reviewing medical histories, and discussing treatment plans.
• Coordinates patient care, including scheduling follow-up appointments and managing referrals.
• Ensures the cleanliness and sterilization of examination and treatment areas.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and satisfaction.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.
• Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA or Registered Medical Assistant.
• BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA).
• CPT - Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA).

• Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of medical practices and patient care.
• Advanced assessment competencies appropriate for level of practice.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Understanding of the patient population and clinical disease processes.
• Proficient in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Five years of medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline.

Salary range: $50,000 - $60,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
