About the role

The Senior Medical Assistant Certified position in the Department of Medicine at Houston Methodist is responsible for providing comprehensive support to physicians and other healthcare professionals. This role requires a minimum of five years of medical assistant experience with a focus on managing highly complex, chronic disease cases or in a specialty discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examinations and treatments, including pre-visit planning and documentation.
  • Assists with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Communicates with patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs, chief complaints, and medical histories.
  • Follows up with patients to ensure adherence to treatment plans and schedules appointments as needed.
  • Coordinates care with other healthcare providers and external resources as necessary.
  • Maintains a high standard of patient care and ensures compliance with departmental and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of medical assistant experience with complex chronic disease management or specialty discipline.
  • A certification as a Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant, along with BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

  • Demonstrated proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical practices and patient care.
  • Ability to develop and maintain clinical quality assurance.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in computer systems for documentation and work-related purposes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
