About the role

The Certified Senior Medical Assistant position at the Cancer Center is responsible for providing comprehensive medical assistance to patients under the supervision of a physician. This role requires a minimum of five years of medical assistant experience with a focus on chronic disease management or a specialty discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-visit planning and documentation
  • Assessment and documentation of vital signs, chief complaints, and medical/social histories
  • Medication review and administration
  • Follow-up with patients to ensure compliance with recommendations and appointments
  • Care coordination with hospital, ED, consulting physicians, and community resources
  • Reporting observations and conditions to supervising physician or nurse
  • Performing routine tests such as EKG, rapid strep, urinalysis, and urine pregnancy tests
  • Ensuring proper sterilization and maintenance of medical equipment and supplies
  • Managing inventory and ordering supplies
  • Providing care coordination and support to improve patient satisfaction scores

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Five years of medical assistant experience with complex chronic disease management or specialty discipline
  • A certification as a Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, NHA, or Registered Medical Assistant, along with BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Certification as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA)

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English
  • Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients
  • Ability to assist with examinations, diagnostic, and treatment procedures
  • Proficiency in computer skills for documentation and work-related purposes
  • Continuous training and education in department-specific requirements
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the interprofessional health care team
  • Understanding of the patient population and its relation to the clinical disease process
  • Advanced assessment competencies appropriate for level of practice
