Certified Senior Medical Assistant - Transplant (Medical Center)

About the role

The Senior Medical Assistant Certified (Sr. MA) position at Houston Methodist Specialty Physician Group is responsible for functioning as an expert and demonstrating highly competent knowledge in more technical and advanced examinations and treatments. This role supports patient care and services under the direct supervision of a Physician or Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Oversee appropriate scope of practice (e.g., Hand Hygiene Validator, EMR super-user)
• Assists with patient examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatment, and dressing changes
• Performs general administrative duties in accordance with CLIA, HIPAA, NCQA, and government standards, as well as company policies and procedures
• Participates in patient care under the direction of a physician and within the scope of a medical assistant
• Schedules patient appointments, ensures medical necessity compliance, and verifies eligibility for care
• Independently and expertly performs the duties and responsibilities of preceptor and clinical resource to Medical Assistants, training and orienting others as appropriate

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Five years medical assistant experience with highly complex, chronic disease management or in a specialty discipline
• Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA, NAHP, NCCT. NHA or Registered Medical Assistant or EMT and BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association
• Preferred: CPT – Certified Phlebotomy Technician (ACA)

• Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job
• Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers
• Knowledge of medical practice and care of patients, assisting with examinations, diagnostic and treatment procedures, and medical equipment and instruments
• Advanced assessment competences appropriate for level of practice
