AAA Northeast Battery Service Technicians support the battery program and deliver safe, best-in-class roadside service to members from a dedicated Battery Service Vehicle. Technicians respond to dispatch, assess vehicle issues, perform battery testing and replacement, provide minor mechanical assistance, and ensure positive member experiences while meeting performance standards.
Responsibilities
- Respond to member service requests, confirm location and issue, and provide accurate ETAs.
- Assess scene safety, greet members, and address their emotional needs.
- Communicate all aspects of the battery program, including testing importance, program benefits, and battery recommendations.
- Report diagnostic test results to members, explain necessary repairs, and provide referrals to AAR-approved facilities.
- Maintain minimum performance standards for conversion, testing, and battery installs.
- Perform diagnostic testing on electrical, battery, starting, charging, ignition, and fuel delivery systems.
- Determine the best course of action for disabled vehicles; seek assistance when unsure.
- Test, boost, maintain, and replace vehicle batteries using specialized equipment and following safety procedures.
- Call for tow when necessary and follow temporarily repaired vehicles to ensure member safety.
- Maintain service vehicle, equipment, and inventory; conduct safety checks and restock batteries.
- Operate laptop to record van activity, invoicing, receipts, and inventory.
- Inspect and maintain vehicle appearance and mechanical condition; test new battery stock and dispose of obsolete batteries following hazardous waste procedures.
- Complete required training and annual refreshers to certify for Battery Service Vehicle operation.
Requirements
- High School GED or equivalent (required).
- At least 21 years of age (required).
- Post-secondary training in automotive mechanics and electrical troubleshooting (preferred).
- Active and valid single-state driver’s license (required).
- Able to obtain and maintain a minimum one-year DOT card pre-hire and as a current employee (required).
- Must pass a motor vehicle record check during pre-hire screening and periodically during employment (required).
Pay
$21.00 - $24.75 per hour base pay, plus full benefits and incentive pay. Additional differentials:
- $2.75 per hour for overnight hours (10:00 PM – 6:00 AM).
- $1.75 per hour for evening hours (6:00 PM – 10:00 PM).
- $1.00 per hour for weekend hours.
Differentials can be combined.
Schedule
Wednesday – Saturday, 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM.
