About the Role

As a Battery Service Technician, you will support and promote the goals of the battery program while providing safe, best-in-class roadside service solutions for AAA members. You will respond to member requests within a given ETA, ensure member safety and vehicle security, and deliver services such as jump starts, flat tire replacement, vehicle entries, and battery testing. You will also install and replace batteries as needed, provide diagnostic and repair assistance, and promote AAA products and services to achieve performance standards for go rates and member satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to member requests for service, providing ETAs and clarifying location or vehicle issues when necessary.
  • Assess scene safety upon arrival and take action to address members' emotional states (e.g., calming or reassuring them).
  • Communicate all aspects of the battery program clearly, including the importance of battery testing, program benefits, and recommended battery types.
  • Report diagnostic testing results to members, explain additional repairs if needed, and provide referrals to AAR-approved facilities.
  • Maintain minimum performance standards in conversion, testing, and battery installations.
  • Provide minor mechanical assistance and battery service, including diagnostic testing of electrical, battery, starting, charging, ignition, and fuel delivery systems.
  • Perform battery testing using specialized equipment, boost or replace batteries as needed, and maintain battery terminals following safety procedures.
  • Call for towing if required and follow temporarily repaired vehicles to ensure member safety or transport members if the vehicle is towed.
  • Maintain the service vehicle and equipment in safe working order, including conducting safety checks and restocking batteries.
  • Operate a laptop to record van activity, invoicing, cash/credit receipts, and inventory.
  • Inspect and maintain the assigned vehicle’s appearance and mechanical condition, test new battery stock, and dispose of obsolete batteries following hazardous waste procedures.
  • Certify to operate a Battery Service Vehicle by completing required training prior to hire and annual refreshers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • At least 21 years of age.
  • Post-secondary training in automotive mechanics and familiarity with electrical troubleshooting preferred.
  • Active and valid driver’s license issued by only one state or jurisdiction required.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a minimum of a one-year DOT card pre-hire and as a current employee required.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a motor vehicle record check during pre-hire screening and periodically during employment.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $23.50 - $26.45 per hour. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, shift differentials, and experience. Additional compensation includes:

  • Annual bonuses for eligible employees.
  • Monthly and/or quarterly incentives for certain roles.
  • Shift differentials: $2.75 per hour for overnight shifts (10 PM - 6 AM), $1.75 per hour for evening shifts (6 PM - 10 PM), and $1 per hour for weekend hours. Differentials can be combined.

Schedule

Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday: 12 PM - 10:30 PM.
