Roadside Technician Battery (59929)

Support and promote the goals of the battery program while providing safe, best-in-class roadside service solutions for AAA members. Ensure positive member experiences in a Battery Service Vehicle, respond to service requests within given ETAs, and achieve club performance standards for go rates and membership satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Respond to member requests for service, providing ETAs and clarifying location/vehicle issues as needed.
• Assess scene safety upon arrival and address members’ emotional states (e.g., calming anxious or angry members).
• Communicate all aspects of the battery program clearly, including battery testing, program benefits, and appropriate battery recommendations.
• Report diagnostic testing results to members, explain necessary repairs, and provide referrals to AAR-approved facilities.
• Maintain minimum performance standards in conversion, testing, and battery installations.
• Provide minor mechanical assistance (if trained/equipped) and battery services, including jump starts, flat tire replacement, and vehicle entries.
• Perform diagnostic testing on disabled vehicle systems (electrical, battery, starting, charging, ignition, fuel delivery).
• Determine the best course of action for repairs; seek assistance if unsure.
• Test, maintain, and replace batteries as needed, including terminal maintenance, boosting, and on-the-spot installations following safety procedures.
• Arrange towing if required and follow temporarily repaired vehicles to ensure member safety or transport members if the vehicle is towed.
• Maintain service vehicle and equipment in safe working order, including conducting safety checks and restocking batteries.
• Operate a laptop to record van activity, invoicing, cash/credit receipts, and inventory.
• Inspect and maintain the assigned vehicle’s appearance and mechanical condition.
• Test new battery stock, dispose of obsolete batteries following hazardous waste procedures, and inventory testing equipment.
• Complete required training to certify for Battery Service Vehicle operation, including annual refreshers.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Post-secondary training in automotive mechanics and familiarity with electrical troubleshooting preferred.
• Active and valid driver’s license issued by only one state or jurisdiction.
• Able to obtain and maintain a minimum one-year DOT card pre-hire and as a current employee.
• Must pass a motor vehicle record check during pre-hire screening and periodically during employment.

Pay

$21.00 - $24.75/hour base pay, plus differentials:

• Additional $2.75/hour for overnight hours (10 PM – 6 AM).
• Additional $1.75/hour for evening hours (6 PM – 10 PM).
• Additional $1/hour for weekend hours.
• Differentials can be combined.

Schedule

Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday – 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM.
