RN - Urgent Care, Olympia MC (36 hrs)

Provide nursing care to a defined group of patients, adhering to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington ambulatory Nursing Care Standards, the Nursing Code of Ethics, and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington policies. Coordinate and facilitate health care services for patients across the health care delivery system. The Urgent Care RN will work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment similar to a free-standing emergency department, serving patients of all ages from neonates to geriatrics with a variety of chief complaints, including neurological, cardiac, and minor injury or illness.

Responsibilities

• Using the nursing process, provide ongoing assessment of the nursing care needs of a defined group of patients and develop a written plan of care.
• Assist patients and families in developing health care goals as part of the individualized plan of care.
• Determine priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available resources.
• Provide nursing interventions safely and competently, including telephone consultation for patients and families.
• Evaluate patient responses to care and modify the plan of care in collaboration with the health care team.
• Demonstrate understanding of the physiologic and psychological effects of normal aging and provide care tailored to specific age populations (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric).
• Collaborate, communicate, and coordinate with other health care team members in planning and implementing care.
• Assess the needs of designated patients requiring hospitalization; initiate nursing admission database and discharge planning.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding psychosocial, cultural, and emotional needs.
• Orient patients and families to the role of the professional nurse, available nursing services, and access to those services.
• Identify patients' educational needs, develop an educational component for each care plan, and provide teaching/counseling.
• Assess patient lifestyle risk factors and integrate health promotion and preventive aspects of care.
• Promote patient self-care responsibility for meeting their own health needs.
• Adhere to KFHPW documentation, safety, and infection control standards.
• Identify own learning needs and participate in continuing education programs, staff orientation, and student education activities.
• Participate in quality assurance activities, professional activities, and nursing research.
• Adhere to KFHPW personnel policies and maintain professional work habits and appearance.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Registered Nurse License (Washington) or Compact License at hire.
• Basic Life Support certification at hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at hire.
• Communication, problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ambulatory care nursing experience.
• Primary nursing or case-management experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Emergency department nursing experience.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) at hire.
