Advanced Urgent Care RN (35 hours Olympia)

Job Summary

Provide nursing care to a defined group of patients, adhering to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington ambulatory Nursing Care Standards, the Nursing Code of Ethics, and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington policies. Coordinate and facilitate health‑care services for the patient across other segments of the health‑care delivery system. Provide and coordinate nursing care in collaboration with the health‑care team. The Registered Nurse is an integral member of the team, overseeing and participating in patient assessment and the formulation and implementation of the care plan. The Urgent Care RN will work in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment comparable to a free‑standing emergency department, caring for patients of all ages—from neonates to geriatrics—with a wide variety of chief complaints (neurological, cardiac, minor injury or illness). Ability to quickly prioritize, use critical thinking, and apply clinical judgment to deliver emergent and urgent care, while collaborating with providers and other Urgent Care staff to ensure high‑quality patient care.

Essential Responsibilities

• Using the nursing process, provide ongoing assessment of the nursing care needs of a defined group of patients and document nursing diagnoses.
• Develop a written plan of care, assist patients and families in setting health‑care goals, and determine priorities based on patient needs and available resources.
• Deliver nursing interventions safely and competently, providing patients and families with information prior to interventions.
• Offer telephone consultation to patients and families, evaluate patient responses to care, and modify the plan of care in collaboration with the health‑care team as needed.
• Demonstrate understanding of the physiologic and psychological effects of normal aging; assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric populations.
• Communicate effectively with age‑specific patient populations and identify personal learning needs related to those groups.
• Collaborate, communicate, and coordinate with other health‑care team members in planning and implementing care, including admission, discharge planning, and inpatient coordination.
• Recognize and address patients’ psychosocial, cultural, and emotional needs in each nurse‑patient interaction.
• Orient patients and families to the role of the professional nurse, available nursing services, and the Consumer Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.
• Identify patients’ educational needs, develop educational components for each care plan, and provide teaching/counseling tailored to learning needs and the medical plan of care.
• Encourage patient compliance with therapeutic and medical regimens; assess lifestyle risk factors and integrate health promotion and preventive measures into care.
• Promote patient self‑care responsibility and implement physical and psychological preventive measures.
• Adhere to KFHPW documentation, safety, and infection‑control standards, including reporting communicable diseases.
• Identify personal learning needs, participate in continued education, staff orientation, and student education activities.
• Collaborate with managers on performance reviews for self and colleagues.
• Assure quality of care through development, implementation, and evaluation of professional nursing standards and participation in multidisciplinary quality‑assurance activities.
• Participate in professional activities, nursing research, and incorporate research findings into practice.
• Follow KFHPW personnel policies, maintain high professional work habits, and comply with the dress‑code policy.

Basic Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Registered Nurse license (Washington) or Compact RN license required at hire.
• Basic Life Support certification required at hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required at hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required within 6 months of hire.
• Strong communication, problem‑solving, leadership, and decision‑making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ambulatory care nursing experience.
• Primary nursing or case‑management experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Emergency department nursing experience.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification at hire.

Pay

• Additional $2.00 /hour Acute Care Premium for SEIU‑represented roles (full‑time and part‑time, can be stacked).
• Premiums apply to Urgent Care, Perioperative Services, and Capitol Hill Inpatient Unit.
• Premium schedule: Week 1 – Thursday, Friday, Saturday; Week 2 – Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
