RN - Urgent Care - Olympia MC (30 hrs)

Schedule: Week 1 – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday; Week 2 – Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

About the role

Provide nursing care to a defined group of patients, adhering to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington ambulatory Nursing Care Standards, the Nursing Code of Ethics, and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington policies. Coordinate and facilitate health care services for patients across the health care delivery system. The Urgent Care RN delivers and coordinates nursing care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment similar to a free-standing emergency department, serving patients of all ages from neonates to geriatrics with a wide variety of chief complaints, including neurological, cardiac, and minor injury or illness.

Responsibilities

• Use the nursing process to assess ongoing nursing care needs for a defined group of patients and develop a written plan of care.
• Assist patients and families in setting health care goals as part of the individualized plan of care.
• Determine care priorities based on essential patient needs and available resources.
• Provide safe and competent nursing interventions, including telephone consultation.
• Evaluate patient responses to care and modify the plan in collaboration with the health care team.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for specific age populations (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric), demonstrating understanding of physiologic and psychological effects of normal aging.
• Collaborate and communicate with health care team members to plan and implement care.
• Assess needs for hospitalization, initiate nursing admission database, and coordinate discharge planning.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding psychosocial, cultural, and emotional needs.
• Orient patients and families to nursing services, roles of health care team members, and access to services.
• Identify and address patient educational needs, providing teaching and counseling aligned with learning needs and medical plans.
• Assess patient lifestyle risk factors and integrate health promotion and preventive care into ongoing assessments.
• Promote patient self-care responsibility for meeting health needs.
• Adhere to documentation, safety, infection control, and reporting standards.
• Identify own learning needs and participate in continuing education, staff orientation, and student education.
• Participate in performance reviews, quality assurance activities, and professional development, including nursing research.
• Adhere to personnel policies and maintain professional work habits and appearance.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Current Washington state Registered Nurse License or Compact License at hire.
• Basic Life Support certification at hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at hire.
• Communication, problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ambulatory care nursing experience.
• Primary nursing or case-management experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Emergency department nursing experience.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) at hire.
