About the role

AdCare Rhode Island is a 59-bed inpatient alcohol and drug treatment center with a mission of providing transformational recovery experiences to individuals struggling with substance dependence. The state-of-the-art facility is nestled on 22 acres of peaceful New England woodland in historic North Kingstown, conveniently located just minutes away from both the airport and downtown Providence, as well as pristine beaches and recreational areas. The newly renovated facility features semi-private rooms with baths, a fitness center, basketball court, and many other amenities.

The Recovery Support Counselor (RSC) assists patients by guiding them through difficulties or crises, facilitating interactive educational and support groups, and supporting patients by helping them process their progress or become aware of any obstacles to their recovery. This position ensures support is delivered in accordance with AdCare’s clinical design, fostering an atmosphere of customer service and excellence while adhering to the mission and values of AdCare and American Addiction Centers (AAC).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate psychoeducational groups for clients using multi-modal approaches and expressive art therapy.
  • Perform individual counseling sessions for clients.
  • Interact with patients to identify and assist with urgent needs.
  • Intervene with patients planning to leave against medical advice (AMA).
  • Assist in the completion of discharge plans.
  • Handle case management details, including phone calls for referrals.
  • Provide crisis management and de-escalation.
  • Document all treatments, notes, and clinical reports into client records.
  • Complete aftercare and discharge planning for clients.
  • Assist with milieu management.
  • Outreach to family and collateral contacts.
  • Actively pursue continuing education to maintain credentials and skills.
  • Attend weekly supervision group sessions.
  • Meet with the Program Director monthly for individual and group supervision in accordance with level of licensure and employment status.
  • Conduct treatment team meetings on the unit.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field preferred; minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 6 months to 1 year or more experience working in substance use preferred.
  • Experience in the mental health field or residential/inpatient treatment is desired.
  • PADC or CPRS certification preferred; willingness to obtain required.
  • Experience in crisis management/de-escalation.
  • Understanding of the disease of addiction.
  • Ability to work on an interdisciplinary treatment team and communicate effectively.
  • Working knowledge of Google Products.
  • All positions require a TST, MMR Titer, ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening, and satisfactory criminal background records check.

Schedule

Tuesday to Saturday, 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
