Responsibilities

  • Perform hemodialysis treatment procedures safely and efficiently.
  • Provide specialized registered nursing care in accordance with state law.
  • Assess patients and document responses to renal failure and treatments.
  • Develop and implement care plans for patients.
  • Communicate with the healthcare team and clients.
  • Coordinate schedules to meet availability requirements.
  • Administer medications and perform routine tests.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the unit.
  • Assume primary nurse responsibilities as directed.
  • Delegating responsibilities and following through on delegated tasks.
  • Assume the day-to-day functions of the Charge Nurse in absence.
  • Contribute to the unit's Quality Assurance Program.
  • Report errors and near misses to prevent recurrence.
  • Participate in performance improvement projects.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Respond to emails and maintain regular attendance.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing school or equivalent.
  • Current RN license for Virginia and current CPR certification.
  • One year of Hemodialysis RN experience (two to three years preferred).
  • Strong technical/computer proficiency.

Qualifications

  • Education and experience: Graduation from an accredited nursing school or equivalent. Current RN license for Virginia and current CPR certification. One year of Hemodialysis RN experience is required (two to three years of experience preferred).
  • Skills and competencies: Strong technical/computer proficiency with laptops, tablets, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint, etc.

  • Read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English.
  • Understand basic renal function and its consequences.
  • Show awareness of the general course of all patients in the unit. Set correct priorities for patient care.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate appropriate care plans.
  • Communicate significant information to the appropriate team member.
  • Assume primary nurse responsibilities.
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately.
  • Document in a clear, concise, and thorough manner.
  • Verify the accuracy of all orders during treatment.
  • Perform all tasks necessary for the safe, smooth, and efficient operation of the unit.
  • Administer medications and understand the principles of safe dosage.
  • Obtain all laboratory specimens as ordered and perform routine tests.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of common lab results.
  • Understand the legal consequences of nursing actions.
  • Understand the hazards associated with failing to follow infection control procedures.
  • Contribute to a harmonious and constructive working relationship.
  • Assume responsibility for special unit projects.
  • Recommend changes in procedures when new knowledge indicates a need for change.
  • Participate in in-service education programs.
  • Assist in the orientation of new staff members.
  • Participate in self and/or peer evaluations.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in continuing education.
  • Prepare daily dialysis logs and set-ups for each shift of patients.
  • Prepare, record, and file laboratory reports.
  • Stock and order necessary blood work supplies.
  • Check email at least weekly and respond appropriately and timely.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
