About the Role

The City of Peoria is seeking a Parks & Sports Facilities Worker III to maintain and improve parks, sports fields, and recreational facilities across various locations. This position ensures facilities are safe, clean, and operational for public use.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repairs, and improvements on parks, sports fields, and recreational facilities.
  • Operate and maintain equipment such as mowers, trimmers, tractors, and irrigation systems.
  • Inspect facilities for safety hazards and perform corrective actions.
  • Assist in the setup and takedown of sports fields and event spaces.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and other staff to prioritize and complete work orders.
  • Ensure compliance with city, state, and federal regulations related to parks and recreation.
  • Perform landscape maintenance, including planting, watering, fertilizing, and pest control.
  • Respond to public inquiries and concerns regarding parks and facilities.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of budgets for parks and facilities.
  • Train and supervise lower-level staff and volunteers as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or a related field.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to operate maintenance equipment and tools safely and effectively.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems, turf management, and landscape maintenance.
  • Physical ability to perform strenuous tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or certification in horticulture, landscape management, or a related field.
  • Experience with sports field maintenance, including baseball, soccer, and football fields.
  • Familiarity with city and state regulations related to parks and recreation.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

Pay

$18.50 - $24.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Schedule

  • Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
  • Work schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for events or maintenance.
  • Overtime opportunities available.
