About the role

Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled grounds maintenance work in the maintenance and upkeep of City parks, sports fields, and related facilities; operates a variety of grounds maintenance equipment; and performs related work as required.

Responsibilities

• Performs grounds maintenance work including mowing, trimming, edging, fertilizing, watering, planting, pruning, and weeding lawns, shrubs, trees, and flower beds.
• Maintains sports fields, including infield preparation, turf maintenance, and irrigation system operation.
• Operates and maintains a variety of grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors, trimmers, blowers, and other hand and power tools.
• Performs minor repairs and maintenance on irrigation systems, fences, benches, and other park facilities.
• Assists in the setup and takedown of equipment and materials for special events and tournaments.
• Removes litter and debris from parks and facilities; cleans and maintains restrooms and other public areas.
• Assists in the application of pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers as directed.
• Performs snow removal and ice control activities as required.
• Responds to public inquiries and complaints in a courteous and professional manner.
• Follows all safety procedures and guidelines; reports unsafe conditions or equipment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• One year of experience in grounds maintenance or related field.
• Valid Arizona driver’s license.
• Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
• Knowledge of grounds maintenance practices, tools, and equipment.
• Ability to perform physical labor in various weather conditions.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public and coworkers.

Pay

$16.50 - $19.50 per hour, depending on experience.

Schedule

• Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
• Typically Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends and evenings required for special events or emergencies.
• Seasonal variations in schedule may apply (e.g., extended hours during sports seasons or holidays).
