About the role

The City of Peoria is seeking a Groundskeeper to maintain parks and sports facilities. This position ensures that public recreational spaces are safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing for community use.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and watering turf areas.
• Maintain sports fields, including dragging, lining, and repairing playing surfaces.
• Operate and maintain grounds equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and utility vehicles.
• Plant, cultivate, and maintain trees, shrubs, flowers, and other landscaping elements.
• Remove litter, debris, and hazardous materials from parks and facilities.
• Assist with irrigation system maintenance and repairs.
• Perform minor repairs to park amenities, including benches, fences, and signage.
• Assist with snow removal and ice control during winter months, as needed.
• Set up and take down equipment for special events and sports activities.
• Follow safety protocols and report any hazards or maintenance issues.
• Interact professionally with the public and respond to inquiries or concerns.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a related field.
• Valid Arizona driver’s license and ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire.
• Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
• Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools.
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, and working in various weather conditions.
• Basic knowledge of plant care, irrigation systems, and pest control.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

Pay

$16.50 - $19.50 per hour, depending on experience.

Schedule

• Full-time position, 40 hours per week.
• Schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Overtime may be required during peak seasons or for special events.
