About the Role

Successfully spray prepared plugs and master patterns for the plug/master prep and mold lamination teams while maintaining schedule and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily tests for equipment calibration and operation.
  • Tape and prepare plugs and master patterns for spraying.
  • Ensure plugs and masters are clean with no contaminants before spraying.
  • Set up, operate, and shut down gelcoat/high-build guns and pumps; clean spray guns.
  • Spray gelcoat in an even mil thickness, adhering to each part’s mil requirements.
  • Maintain all booths and equipment clean, neat, and organized at all times.
  • Conduct daily routine maintenance of booths and equipment.
  • Record material date and batch numbers.
  • Ensure all operations are performed safely.
  • Store all materials safely at the end of the day.
  • Conduct operations using TDC mold fabrication approved processes (ISPC).
  • Provide for continuous improvement and a zero recordable safety environment.
  • Adhere to procedures and processes to maintain quality standards.
  • Maintain schedule to meet key milestones.
  • Understand environmental compliance related to chemical handling, usage, labeling, storage, and disposal.
  • Support continuous improvement using Safety system, Kaizen, CAR system, and other problem-solving techniques.
  • Maintain equipment and workplace organization using the 5S methodology.
  • Identify problems (e.g., material shortages, employee relations issues) and communicate them to the group leader when additional assistance is needed.

Skills & Proficiencies

  • Fully understand gelcoat/high-build component coating equipment maintenance and use.
  • Spray booth operation and maintenance.
  • Use of quality assurance equipment (e.g., mil gauge).
  • Composite fabrication.
  • Spot repair techniques.
  • General knowledge and understanding of required power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to understand and execute top quality work.
  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol screening contingent to the hiring process.
  • Job requires standing and working in and around boats/molds throughout the entire day.
  • Must work efficiently and in the safest manner possible, following all safety regulations at all times.

Work Environment

  • Exposure to ambient cold and heat temperatures.
  • Very dusty environment with airborne particulates from cutting, drilling, and grinding.
  • Exposure to extremely sharp tooling used for cutting fiberglass.
  • Typical 10-hour workday.
  • Typical 4- or 5-day work week schedule; overtime is occasional to frequent.
  • Required to work indoors and outdoors, year-round and in all weather conditions.
  • May be required to work during production shutdowns or other “off-schedule” periods.
  • Safety glasses required while in production areas; other PPE may be required based on specific projects.
