Summary
Associate is proficient at spraying gel coat on molds within the CMP spray booth or the small parts spray booth. Responsible for applying gel coat within specified thicknesses and colors, free of defects, to maintain production schedules during early morning shifts.
Responsibilities
- Wear specialized PPE with fresh air breathers while applying material.
- Prime, start-up, operate, and shut down gel coat & catalyst pumps to support daily production.
- Complete documentation (ISPCS) for each part.
- Maintain a good understanding of gel coat defects and associated root causes.
- Train new associates in the specific booth.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including maintaining gel booth coverings and filters, assisting gel coaters in 4 booths, operating a forklift, and training as a Team Leader.
Requirements
- Ability to complete all technician tasks in the CMP or small parts spray booths.
- General knowledge and understanding of required power tools.
- Commitment to executing top-quality work.
- Ability to pass strength/stress tests and drug/alcohol screening as part of the hiring process.
- Capability to stand and work in and around boats/molds throughout the entire day.
- Must work efficiently and safely, adhering to all safety regulations at all times.
- Ability to work at heights above four feet.
- Must be clean-shaven to wear a close-fitting respirator or unshaven to wear a supplied air respirator.
Qualifications
- Less than high school education; or up to one month of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and computation of rates, ratios, and percentages.
- Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
- Stands for 8 hours continuously.
- Walks for 2 hours.
- Lifts and/or carries up to 50 lbs. (maximum), 30 lbs. occasionally, and 15 lbs. frequently.
- Performs repetitive hand activities: simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation (both hands, constant or frequent).
- Engages in frequent bending at the waist, squatting, and kneeling; occasional climbing of ladders or stairs; and frequent reaching above shoulder.
Work Environment
- Exposure to ambient cold temperatures in winter and heat in summer for short periods.
- Very dusty environment with airborne particulates from cutting, drilling, and grinding fiberglass.
- Exposure to extremely sharp tooling used for cutting fiberglass.
- Requires air-supplied hoods due to dust exposure; safety glasses are always required.
Schedule
Typical 10-hour work days with frequent overtime required.
