About the role
Gelcoat is a liquid that hardens to form a thick layer of protective fiberglass and gives a shiny, smooth finish. This position applies gel coat to production hull and deck molds by using hand-operated spray equipment.
Responsibilities
- Operates spray gun to apply various coats of gel coat to molds according to production schedule, ensuring color, finish, and thickness are adhered to.
- Pulls tape on deck or hull molds.
- Maintains and cleans test gel coating equipment to ensure it operates as required.
- Maintains a clean and environmentally safe work area.
- Continued awareness and protective actions regarding all health, safety, and chemical protocols and processes.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Must follow all safety standards and procedures.
- Positive attitude, high dependability, and promotion of good morale.
- Must adhere to all quality standards and adapt to new standards as processes evolve.
- Pass a pulmonary function test and abide by a respiratory protection program to wear a respirator.
Skills
- Light lifting (under 20 lbs) and moderate lifting (21–59 lbs).
- Light carrying (under 20 lbs) and moderate carrying (21–59 lbs).
- Straight pulling, pushing, repeated bending, reaching over shoulders.
- Use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated stretching.
- Specific visual requirements, including ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of color.
- Hearing (aid permitted).
Work Environment
- Outside and inside conditions.
- Exposure to extreme heat, extreme humidity, and extreme noise (intermittent).
- Dust, fumes, smoke, or gases.
- Solvents (degreasing agents).
- Slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
Independent Judgement
Performs tasks and duties under general supervision, using established procedures and innovation. Chooses from limited alternatives to resolve problems. Occasional independent judgment is required to complete work assignments. Often makes recommendations to work procedures, policies, and practices.
