Patient Service Representative PRN STARS Baker City

About the role

This is a PRN (as-needed) role providing staffing coverage at the Baker City STARS Clinic. PRN employees are typically required to work at least 3 shifts per month but may cover more as desired or available. Shifts are typically between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

The Baker City Clinic is located at 3325 Pocahontas Rd, Baker City, OR 97814.

Responsibilities

  • Check in patients for appointments and collect co-pays.
  • Answer telephones, take accurate messages, and schedule appointments.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and update patient information in the electronic medical record (EPIC).
  • Protect patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Greet patients immediately, providing a positive customer service experience.
  • Register patients for appointments and complete required paperwork.
  • Verify and update existing patient and insurance information.
  • Keep patient appointments on schedule by notifying the provider of patient arrival.
  • Inform patients of delays, explain reasons, and provide estimated wait times.
  • Collect, record, and communicate patient responsible balances for visits, diagnostic testing, supplies, etc.
  • Maintain knowledge of different payer practices and deductibles.
  • Assist patients with all aspects of Financial Assistance paperwork.
  • Control credit extended to patients via payment plans.
  • Maintain business office inventory, equipment, and supplies.
  • Keep the reception area and work area neat.
  • Follow Cash Control Policy and Procedure, balancing daily financial activities.
  • Ensure collection of payments at the time of service.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Previous customer service experience (required).
  • Healthcare experience (preferred).
  • Electronic health record (EHR) experience (a plus).
  • Medical terminology (preferred).
  • Experience with process improvement or lean philosophy (preferred).
