Providence is calling for a Patient Financial Counselor to join our team on a full-time, day shift basis in an onsite role.

About the role

Patient Financial Counselors have direct interaction with patients and their families either on the phone or in person. They ease the resolution of patient accounts through financial clearance, payment collection, obtaining sponsorship, and financial assistance. The role involves identifying eligibility, providing education, and completing and submitting applications for various State and Federal sponsorship programs. Counselors also assist patients and make eligibility determinations for Providence St. Joseph Health Financial Assistance. Duties are performed in a manner reflecting Providence's mission, philosophy, and core values.

Responsibilities

  • Interact directly with patients and families to resolve financial accounts.
  • Perform financial clearance, payment collection, and obtain sponsorship or financial assistance.
  • Identify eligibility for State and Federal sponsorship programs.
  • Provide education and complete/submit applications for financial assistance programs.
  • Assist patients with eligibility determinations for Providence St. Joseph Health Financial Assistance.
  • Utilize automated, computerized account follow-up systems (preferably Epic).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare business office.
  • 3 years of experience or proven success as a Patient Financial Advocate Associate, preferably with Providence St. Joseph Health or its Affiliates.
  • 2 years of experience in an automated, computerized account follow-up system, preferably Epic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of reimbursement processes for healthcare accounts from insurance companies.
  • Previous experience with medical and health plan terminology.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $20.92 - $32.00 per hour. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range will be determined based on relevant job experience and other applicable factors. Additional compensation may be available, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.

Schedule

  • Full-time, day shift.
  • Onsite at Providence Seaside Hospital in Seaside, OR.
