Patient Financial Counselor - Full time, Day, Onsite
Providence is calling for a Patient Financial Counselor to join our team onsite in a full-time, day-shift role. Patient Financial Counselors are part of a team with direct interaction with patients and their families, either on the phone or in person. They ease the resolution of patient accounts through financial clearance, payment collection, obtaining sponsorship, and financial assistance. The role involves identifying eligibility, providing education, and completing and submitting applications for various State and Federal sponsorship programs. Counselors also assist patients and make eligibility determinations for Providence St. Joseph Health Financial Assistance.
Responsibilities
- Interact directly with patients and families to resolve account issues.
- Perform financial clearance, payment collection, and obtain sponsorship or financial assistance.
- Identify patient eligibility for State and Federal sponsorship programs.
- Provide education and complete/submit applications for financial assistance programs.
- Assist patients in making eligibility determinations for Providence St. Joseph Health Financial Assistance.
- Perform duties in alignment with Providence’s mission, philosophy, and core values.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two or more years of experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare business office.
- Minimum of three years of experience required, or proven success as a Patient Financial Advocate Associate, preferably with Providence St. Joseph Health or its Affiliates.
- Two years of experience in an automated, computerized account follow-up system, preferably Epic.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of reimbursement processes for healthcare accounts from insurance companies.
- Previous experience with medical and health plan terminology.

Pay
The wage range for this position is $18.07 - $27.64 per hour. The successful candidate's placement on the wage range will be determined based on relevant job experience and other applicable factors. Additional compensation may be available, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
