About the role
A Patient Financial Advocate at Intermountain Health is responsible for providing financial counseling to uninsured/underinsured patients, assisting with medical assistance eligibility, and processing applications for various medical assistance programs.
Responsibilities
- Processes financial assistance application requests.
- Verifies completeness and accuracy of patient information.
- Reviews and verifies submitted applications, supporting documents, and eligibility for financial assistance/charity.
- Updates patient demographic information and account notes in charity software and/or EPIC.
- Images/scans required financial assistance supporting documents.
- Collections patient payments and provides accurate receipts, posting payments in the system.
- Identifies individuals who may qualify for state or federally funded programs and refers to the appropriate department for processing.
- Delivers education on health plans available.
- Maintains departmental and/or individual work queues and reports as required.
- Promotes Intermountain Health's mission, vision, and values, and adheres to service behavior standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in healthcare revenue cycle, patient access, or other customer service role.
- Knowledge of the Affordable Care Act, insurance billing, medical terminology, and reimbursement practices.
- Proficiency in interpreting insurance Explanation of Benefits.
- Proficiency in computer skills including Microsoft Office applications, electronic health record systems, internet, and email.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Pay
The hourly range for this position is $20.35 - $30.97, with actual hourly rates dependent upon experience.
Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
