Expected pay for this position is $21.72 - $25.55/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity. This is an hourly position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, located in Rockford, IL.

About the Role

The Patient Access Specialty Scheduler performs standard Patient Access functions and specializes in a variety of complex tasks in a specialty area. This role demonstrates a high level of initiative and critical thinking to solve problems independently. A key responsibility is coordinating patients’ appointments within the Oncology Clinic, understanding complex treatment regimens to ensure correct timing and duration of appointments, including consultations, follow-ups, infusions/chemo treatments, scans, labs, imaging, and biopsies.

This role collaborates with physicians, nurses, patients, and other facilities to ensure well-coordinated, timely care. It also involves understanding the Revenue Cycle and securing financial resources to maximize reimbursement for the Health System. Exceptional patient service skills are required to create a positive first impression of OSF’s services, whether interacting over the phone or in person. Confidentiality of patient, employee, and guest information is strictly maintained, adhering to compliance guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard Patient Access functions and specialized complex tasks in a specialty area.
  • Coordinate patient appointments within the Oncology Clinic, ensuring correct timing and duration for consultations, follow-ups, infusions/chemo treatments, scans, labs, imaging, and biopsies.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, patients, and external facilities to ensure timely and well-coordinated care.
  • Understand and support the Revenue Cycle to maximize reimbursement for the Health System.
  • Provide excellent patient service, creating a positive first impression of OSF’s services.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient, employee, and guest information in accordance with compliance guidelines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of experience in a call center, healthcare, and/or public health setting OR an associate degree and one year of customer service relations experience.
  • Healthcare Financial Management Associates Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (HFMA CRCR) certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software and solid computer skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Advanced knowledge of insurance and managed care terminology, including CPT4, ICD9/10, HCPCS, and modifiers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with key OSF applications (EPIC, MS Teams).
