Responsibilities
- Accurately gather necessary demographic and clinical information from patient interviews and other sources and enter into appropriate databases.
- Obtain other necessary information and signatures required for scheduling and registration.
- Seek appropriate resources to resolve issues about the type, date, or location of prescribed procedures.
- Utilize courteous and professional telephone techniques and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain rapport with patients, physicians, and hospital staff.
- Schedule patient procedures in a manner that most efficiently utilizes the patient's time and clinical resources.
- Conduct all activities with knowledge and understanding of Sheridan Memorial Hospital's mission and values, regulatory compliance requirements, payer requirements, HIPAA privacy and security requirements, the overall revenue cycle procedures, and the hospital's policies.
- Perform necessary financial clearance processes, including eligibility, insurance verification, with excellent customer service.
- Coordinate activities related to insurance pre-certification and authorization.
- Provide counseling to patients or their representatives regarding pre-service requirements and instructions.
- Help maintain a professional atmosphere for patients, family members, and staff.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum six months' customer service experience.
- Minimum six months' experience in healthcare scheduling preferred.
- Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes preferred.
- Medical terminology course preferred.
- Keyboarding, filing, office procedure classes and/or experience preferred.
