Part Time Lecturer Pool for Department of Music - AY 2026-2027
One or more temporary, part-time lecturers for a pool from which instructors will be considered for appointments as they become available for Fall Semester 2026 and/or Spring Semester 2027.
About the Department
The Department of Music is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music, offering the Bachelor of Arts and the Master of Arts Degrees in Music.
Responsibilities
- Studio or Ensemble Instruction: studio instruction, chamber ensembles (classical, world music, and jazz), collaborative piano, accompanying of ensembles and/or students
- Classroom Instruction: music theory, music history, music technology, sight-singing, class piano, basic brass, basic strings, basic woodwinds, basic voice, basic percussion, and general education coursework in music and music appreciation
- All instructional assignments require office hours in accordance with the University Office Hour Policy
- Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online
The policy and expectation of California State University are that all faculty members will perform all of their duties within the state of California.
Qualifications
For Studio or Ensemble Instruction
- M.A. in Music, M.M. or M.Mus. (may consider B.M. with significant and extensive professional musical experience)
- Ph.D. in Music, D.M. or D.M.A. is preferred
- University-level teaching experience in the subject, including the teaching of students at an advanced level
- Extensive professional experience as a performer
- Extensive knowledge of the subject matter
- Experience teaching at the college or university level (preferred)
For all other music positions
- M.A. in Music, M.M. or M.Mus. is required
- Ph.D. in Music, D.M. or D.M.A. is preferred
- University-level teaching experience in the subject
Pay
Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. The salary schedule for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is as follows:
- Lecturer AY (Range 2): $5,507 - $6,677
- Lecturer AY (Range 3): $6,221 - $13,224
- Lecturer AY (Range 4): $6,825 - $14,523
- Lecturer AY (Range 5): $8,593 - $15,211
The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Position appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.
Schedule
- Fall Semester begins August 17, 2026
- Spring Semester begins January 19, 2027
Conditions of Employment
- Must be lawfully authorized to work in the United States
- All offers of employment are contingent upon presentation of documents demonstrating identity and eligibility to work
- A background check (including a criminal records check and prior employment verification) must be completed and cleared prior to the start of employment
- Satisfactory completion of a background check that may include verification of academic credentials, licenses, certificates, credit history, professional references, and/or work history is required
- Cal State East Bay will issue a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information or if the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information
