Part-Time Lecturer Pool - Music (AY 26/27)
About the role
The Music Department, College of Liberal Arts, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers. Positions are available as determined by need and funding during Fall and/or Spring semesters of the 2026 - 2027 academic year, which begins August 17, 2026.
Responsibilities
- Teach one-unit to two-unit activity classes in guitar, voice, and piano.
- Teach large and small vocal and instrumental ensembles.
- Provide private instruction in all orchestral and band instruments, piano, and voice.
- Teach lecture classes in music theory, music appreciation, music technology, and music history (all of its genres).
Requirements
- Candidates for activity courses and private instruction must have completed a Bachelor's Degree in Music or must have earned a bachelor's degree outside of music and have extensive professional performing experience in music.
- Candidates for lecture classes must have at least a Master's Degree in Music.
Qualifications
- Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department.
- Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
- Classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are provided in the pay section.
Skills
Preference will be given to those with relevant work experience (particularly university teaching) and those who bring professional capabilities.

- Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,221
