26-27 AY Temporary Faculty Pool (Lecturer) - Music

About the role

The School of Music offers a comprehensive range of programs, including concentrations in Music Education, Instrumental Performance, Vocal Performance, Composition, and Jazz Studies. Performance specializations include voice, as well as instrumental areas such as wind, brass, string, percussion, and piano. The School of Music is recognized for its continued growth and serves a diverse student population from across California’s Central Valley region.

Responsibilities

• Studio Instructor for applied lessons needed.
• Additional courses may be assigned as needed to support students’ educational objectives, including Musicology, Music Education, and Music Theory.
• Teach undergraduate courses such as: Applied Faculty Lessons, or other courses, as needed, to support the current students educational objectives.
• Adhere to and implement university and system-wide policies as directed per Academic Policy Manual 306, paragraph 2.
• Prepare, deliver, conduct, proctor, and grade (as appropriate) lectures, office hours, homework assignments, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams.
• Offer and meet all classes as scheduled throughout the entire semester, in the mode assigned and listed in the schedule of classes (i.e. asynchronous, synchronous, in-person, or hybrid).

Requirements

• A Master's degree in the area you are being considered or closely related field, or substantial experience in the related area.
• Demonstrate a high level of performance proficiency and maintain an active career as an accomplished instrumentalist or vocalist, with proven expertise as both a soloist and ensemble performer.
• Be able to recruit and retain students, maintain excellent relationships with both public and private educators within the relevant service area, and work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively recruit and retain students.
• Have a distinguished professional background and successful experience in university teaching or a comparable setting.

Qualifications

• A doctorate in the area, you are being considered.
• A commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, which may be exhibited through prior teaching experiences and teaching evaluations or other evidence.
• Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
• A demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to maintain excellent relationships with both public and private educators within the relevant service area.

Benefits

Commensurate by qualifications and experience within salary range placement. The salary ranges are established by the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers).

Pay

Starting salaries are usually at or near the minimum of the range. Actual monthly salary will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per an academic term.

Schedule

Appointees will be required to demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States. California State University, Fresno does not sponsor Temporary Faculty for work visas.
