About the role
The Department of Music and Theatre at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time lecturers for the following programs:
- Musical Pedagogy Courses
- Brass
- Percussion
- Strings
- Woodwinds
- Mariachi Ensemble
- Studio Instruction
- Music Education
- Music History
- Music Theory
- Theatre: Beginning Acting, Art of Presentation, Dramatic Activity for the Classroom
Responsibilities
Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution, or equivalent professional experience demonstrating the qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the position.

Rank and Salary
Lecturer. Anticipated salary range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. Full-time equivalent salary ranges are as follows (amounts pro-rated for part-time assignments):
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per month [Anticipated starting salary: $5,507 - $6,092 monthly]
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per month [Anticipated starting salary: $6,221 - $9,722 monthly]
- Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per month [Anticipated starting salary: $6,825 - $10,674 monthly]
- Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211 per month [Anticipated starting salary: $8,593 - $11,902 monthly]

Background Check
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be satisfactorily completed. Offers of employment are conditional and may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Out of State Employment
Per CSU-wide policy, all faculty who will begin initial employment (or return from a 12-month break in service) on or after January 1, 2022 are required to perform their work from within the State of California.
