About the role

The Park Resource Ranger position with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Yellow Creek State Park offers an active role in keeping park visitors safe and informed. You will work outdoors, guide guests, share information, and monitor conditions that may affect safety while protecting park resources.

Responsibilities

  • Support Visitor Safety: guide visitors, monitor conditions, and respond to emergencies as needed.
  • Provide Information: share rules, recreation details, and park history with guests.
  • Inspect Park Areas: check buildings, facilities, and grounds for security and safety concerns.
  • Maintain Equipment: care for rescue tools, first aid kits, and assigned work areas.
  • Assist With Operations: help issue permits, take revenue, and handle reservations when scheduled.

Schedule

  • Seasonal, full‑time position (approximately March 2026 – November 2026).
  • Employee placed on leave without pay after November 2026 and automatically returned to employment in March 2027.
  • Work 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week, including holidays and weekends.
  • No telework option.
  • No healthcare benefits are provided; there is no option to buy into health care benefits.

Qualifications

  • Special Requirements:
    • Active motor vehicle license.
    • Valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent) obtained within 60 days of employment.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirement.
    • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Legal Requirements:
    • Pass a background investigation.
    • Compliance with the Child Protective Services Law, including submission and approval of criminal history reports (PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, FBI fingerprint clearance).
    • Complete Child Abuse, Criminal, and Federal Criminal History checks at hire and every five years, per Act 153 of 2014.
