DCNR is seeking a personable, ambitious, and reliable professional to join the team as a seasonal Park Resource Ranger at Colonel Denning State Park Complex. This role plays a vital part in enhancing park operations, outdoor recreation, and maintaining safe conditions for visitors while protecting natural resources.
About the role
This position supports daily operations and visitor services across the Colonel Denning State Park Complex, focusing on safety, public contact, and protecting park facilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide helpful information about park facilities, recreation, history, and natural features.
- Respond to emergencies, administer first aid, and assist in search and rescue efforts.
- Inspect trails, boundaries, buildings, and structures to identify hazards and ensure compliance with park rules.
- Register visitors, complete reports, answer calls, and use computer systems for reservations and data entry.
- Give presentations to schools, civic groups, and other organizations about park rules, programs, and environmental features.
- Coordinate with other state and federal agencies to manage incidents and support enforcement activities.
Requirements
- Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
- Must obtain valid certification in standard first aid and adult, child, and infant CPR (approved by the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent) within 60 days of employment.
- Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
- Must pass a background investigation, including PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law and requires clearance checks every 5 years.
Schedule
- Seasonal, full-time position from approximately March 2026 to November 2026, with automatic return to employment in March 2027.
- 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week, including weekends, holidays, and varied shifts (including a 30-minute lunch break).
- No telework option available.
Note: This position does not include healthcare benefits, and there is no option to buy into health coverage.
