Responsibilities

  • Affords assistance in assessing patient needs based on information gathered from history, observation, physical exam, telephone triage, and analysis of diagnostic results.
  • Carries out direct patient care tasks, including triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge, and follow-up instructions.
  • Prepares patients for visits with providers and documents pertinent information through communication with patients and families, including vital signs, history, and chief complaints.
  • Prepares and documents charts, scans necessary documents into patient records, and performs specialized tests as needed.
  • Administers medications as directed by the physician and assists with treatments and procedures.
  • Schedules testing and referral appointments for patients as instructed by the provider and handles patient inquiries via phone.
  • Follows up with patients as necessary and cleans and straightens examination rooms according to OSHA standards.
  • Maintains medical supplies, checks medication and vaccine expiration dates, and disposes of outdated items.
  • Keeps abreast of new equipment and performs routine maintenance.
  • Schedules and reschedules appointments as needed and promotes MyChart usage for patients.
  • Encourages colleagues' formal and informal continuing education and participates in departmental quality improvement projects.
  • Promotes the practice mission and philosophy and projects a positive image.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
