About the Department
The Oceanography undergraduate program at Cal Poly Humboldt is one of only two programs in California leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Oceanography. The program has an international reputation and provides every undergraduate student with research experience typically reserved for Master’s students. Students learn by doing through access to a fully-equipped marine lab and the R/V Northwind, a true oceanic research vessel dedicated to undergraduate classes and research. The curriculum includes a broad foundation in mathematics, biology, chemistry, geology, and physics, as well as training in effective written and oral communication skills.

Qualifications
- M.S./M.A. or equivalent in a related field, with evidence of mastery in the area being taught and successful teaching experience (required).
- Consideration may also be given to a strong professional background in the field.
- For a limited number of courses, a B.A./B.S. degree in the appropriate field along with successful teaching experience or a strong professional background may be considered.
Pay
Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary schedule for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is as follows:
- Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
- Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per month
- Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per month
Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range. Full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries are prorated to the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. For more details, see the Explanation of the Distribution of Pay.
Schedule
This is a temporary lecturer position with availability as needed. Appointees must be able to accept on-campus instruction as assigned and come to campus when required.
