Lecturer Pool in Department of General Studies (Academic Year 26/27)
Cal Poly Humboldt’s Department of General Studies invites applications for its Temporary Faculty Pool to teach in the Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Individualized Degree Plan (IDP). The IDP program offers students a flexible, customized higher-education experience, allowing them to design a unique degree plan incorporating courses from multiple disciplines. A sequence of required core courses introduces students to interdisciplinary thinking and modes of inquiry.
About the Role
The successful candidate will teach courses in the Interdisciplinary Studies program, including but not limited to:
- SP 210 Minding the Gaps: Interdisciplinary Communication (3 units) – Through discussions, debates, and presentations, students learn interdisciplinary approaches to critically evaluate, integrate, and communicate ideas and knowledge across academic disciplines. Includes intensive practice in oral communication, critical listening, and the use of digital media and technology.
- SP 310 Interdisciplinary Inquiry (3 units) – Students apply interdisciplinary modes of inquiry to problem-solving, personal assessment, and career development. They examine complex socio-environmental problems and generate equitable and sustainable solutions while drafting an individualized degree proposal.
- SP 492 Senior Capstone Project (3 units) – Capstone experience for Interdisciplinary Studies. Students complete an interdisciplinary research or creative project and produce an e-Portfolio reflecting the outcomes and applications of their interdisciplinary learning.
- SP 482 Experiential Learning, Internship (1-6 units) – Students explore and gain practical experience related to their educational and/or career goals. They reflect critically on their experiential learning under faculty guidance. May be repeated for a maximum of 6 units total.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in any field is required; PhD in any field is preferred.
- Interdisciplinary education, research, and/or professional experience.
- Potential for effective teaching in Interdisciplinary Studies, including experience with diverse methodologies and online instruction.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a learning environment supportive of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to mentor students with diverse interests and goals and work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and advisors.
- Willingness to participate in the development of online learning experiences.
Pay
Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience, based on the following monthly ranges (prorated by units worked and paid in six installments per semester):
- Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523
