General Studies Lecturer Pool 2026-2027

About the role

The General Studies Program in the Office of Faculty Advancement and Student Success at San Diego State University is accepting applications for their part-time lecturer pool. We welcome applications from prospective temporary faculty with expertise or experience in the following areas:

Responsibilities

• Teach lower division courses in academic fields including liberal arts and sciences and education.
• Teach upper division courses in interdisciplinary methodologies, internships, undergraduate research, and community engaged learning.
• Engage in active learning and hybrid modalities.
• Contribute to the teaching and learning environment through innovative pedagogical approaches.

Requirements

• Graduate degree in an academic field including liberal arts and sciences and education.
• University teaching experience including active learning and hybrid modalities.
• For upper division courses: Graduate degree in an academic field including liberal arts and sciences and education, with demonstrated experience or expertise in interdisciplinary methodologies, internships, undergraduate research, and community engaged learning.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience or expertise in teaching, research, or service connected to underrepresented communities in higher education.
• Demonstrated currency in subject matters including Business Administration, Engineering, Leadership, or any of the STEM or Allied Health Careers.
• Terminal degree in an academic field including liberal arts and sciences and education, with demonstrated experience or expertise in interdisciplinary methodologies, internships, undergraduate research, and community engaged learning.
• Demonstrated experience or expertise in teaching, research, or service connected to underrepresented communities in higher education.

Pay

Initial appointments are typically one semester or one academic year, to be renewed contingent on satisfactory evaluations and continuing availability of work. Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are: Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523.

Schedule

The Fall term begins mid-August and ends late-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends mid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions may also be available.
